Paul’s letter to the Romans has been one of the most important single documents in the history of the church, and indeed of the whole world. Most Christians have a nodding acquaintance with bits of it; few would claim to have mastered its complex arguments, its sudden changes of mood, or even the question of why Paul wrote it in the first place. This course begins with a bird’s eye view of the letter, seeing it holistically before moving to the parts. Then Professor Wright focuses on the individual sections, assessing their contribution to that whole. He examines some of the most controversial and difficult passages in detail (3:21-4:25, 7:7-8:11 and 9-11) before standing back and capturing a last awesome view of the breathtaking theological and missionary vision which Paul offers to his readers.

N. Thomas Wright is Canon Theologian of Westminster Abbey in England and a respected New Testament scholar. His books include The Original Jesus, The Challenge of Jesus, Jesus and the Victory of God and The Millennium Myth.

Fred Lock says:

I have the privilege of being able to walk to work each day, and was pleased to find this recording to listen to during that time. As I began to listen, I was immediately happy I made this purchase and have to agree with the previous reviewer that this is an excellent study of Romans. Before listening to this recording I enjoyed Romans but I never really understood the overall argument and teaching of the letter. Now, thanks to this recording, I feel I have a very good foundation for understanding Romans, and a deeper respect for Paul himself. Technically, the recording is well done and clear. The speaker has a vast command of the subject and presents the material in a clear, organized, and succinct way.

I highly recommend this recording. I look forward to listening to it again and again.

This is a great presentation of Romans. I am currently listening to it for my third time and am taking notes. Tom Wright has a gift for taking complex material and making very accessible to the rest of us. I listen to this recording with my Bible open and my mind focused. It is fine to listen to this while driving or doing other simple tasks, but you will get the most out of it if you sit down and focus on what he is saying. If anyone knows where to get the handouts that he used for this class I would be very interested. I feel like I got a seminary class for just a few bucks…what a deal.

This recording is well worth the time and money.
