As Sundar preached the gospel to the crowd, the monastery guard marched forward and arrested him. Sundar was dragged to the edge of town and hurled to the bottom of an abandoned well. The air was putrid. Desperation and loneliness soon washed over him. Left to die, Sundar leaned against the side of the well and began to pray.

Searching since boyhood for the way to God, Sundar Singh found truth in Jesus Christ. At sixteen, the former Sikh became a Christian sadhu, or holy man, and at great risk devoted his life to Christ. With bare feet and few possessions, Sundar crossed the precarious Himalayas between India and Tibet many times, sharing the gospel with Hindus, Buddhists, Sikhs - even thieves.

As he traveled, Sundar constantly read the Bible, prayed, and meditated, confident that God was always with him, even in the face of death. Preaching in Asia, Europe, and as far away as America, this Indian saint impacted thousands with his quiet yet bold words and actions. (1889-1929)

Yet Another Fascinating, Compelling Biography!
Once again, Janet and Geoff Benge have crafted a compelling and fascinating biography of a fellow Christian / follower of Jesus. This time it's of Sundar Singh. This book, like all those in the series, gives listeners a concise overview of the life of Sundar Singh, a preacher whose incredible experiences in and around Tibet and India force any honest listener to wonder whether they themselves may be a little too comfortable and whether that comfort may be a hindrance to the Gospel. (I'm purposely spare on details so that you can be surprised when you listen.)

Tim Gregory must be commended for his narrating. His skill as a narrator is so obvious in this series and especially in this selection. The use of different accents (Indian, English, Tibetan) makes this story and every one in the series fresh and fun with each listen. Well done!

The only possible downside to the series, this one included, is their fast pace may convey too few details for some or wade too shallow in the spiritual depths. I recommend such listeners let this series be an introduction to these amazing living testimonies. After listening, you can then find any number of additional books to fill in those missing details or to examine further the teachings of Sundar Singh and others.

The story will inspire and encourage -- AND even challenge -- you. Be blessed.
