If you live for people's acceptance, you'll die from their rejection.

Two-time Grammy winning rap artist, Lecrae, learned this lesson through more than his share of adversity—childhood abuse, drugs and alcoholism, a stint in rehab, an abortion, and an unsuccessful suicide attempt.

Along the way, Lecrae attained an unwavering faith in Jesus and began looking to God for affirmation. Now as a chart-topping industry anomaly, he has learned to ignore the haters and make peace with his craft. The rap artist holds nothing back as he divulges the most sensitive details of his life, answers his critics, shares intimate handwritten journal entries, and powerfully models how to be Christian in a secular age.

A window into God at work in a culture strange to many of us
Wow! This old white lady who has never listened to very much hip hop or rap loved this book. Lecrae gives us an honest look into his journey from abuse and delinquency to Christian husband who just happens to be a rapper. This is a young man who has studied hard to learn scripture, theology, and church history. He has some deep insights about Christian growth - babies aren't born knowing how to walk!

Lecrae's life has included some very dark, unsavory experiences. He does not shrink from admitting them but he does not recount them in a salacious way.

I am glad to have this as an audiobook. Hearing Lecrae's story in his own voice was a treat.

Would not recommend, especially to unmarried men.
I could not recommend this book. The sexual abuse and what followed was described too graphically. Also, I can't agree with his reaoning to go mainstream. Scriptures draw a clear line between light and darkness, and call for Christians to come out and be separate. I feel we should LOVE the sinner, but HATE the sin. Bad company corrupts good character. This doesn't call the unsaved to much of a changed life, if any, other than not drinking and partying. The music, people and places we go IN-FORM / form-with-in things in us. How can we be transformed by the renewing o our mind while living with music, relationships and surroundings that seek to conform us to this world and destroy the power of God?
Quite disappointed, sadly.
