Many committed, knowledgeable believers still know little about the history of the church. As a result, they’re missing a testament to God’s steadfastness over the centuries. Now, a monumental new teaching series sheds crucial light on church history, demonstrating God’s promise to build and preserve his church so that “the gates of hell will not prevail against it” (Matt. 16:18). Join Dr. W. Robert Godfrey as he takes believers through the first twelve lectures of what will be a seventy-three lecture series covering theology, apologetics, notable church fathers, and much more.
- Good information, highly partial interpretation
This book is about half history and half critique of the different events from a reformed theological perspective. I found this made it feel a lot less credible as the information Is clearly presented with an agenda. As a Protestant I don’t agree with much of that, I found his cynicism of Catholicism particularly distasteful.
- Great content, horrible presentation
I have very mixed views on this one. The content was good but the presentation was horrible. There was a commercial for the ministry at the beginning and end of every chapter, and the speaker writes (and presumably draws) on a board for the benefit of the in-person audience. In audiobook format there is something missing when the speakers starts writing and all you hear is chalk against a board...
Yes, the material was informative, but the way in which it was provided will keep me from buying part two.
- Well presented, informative and engaging
This is a well presented and interesting survey of the institutional (as it became) church - that is it is traces mostly theological thought and the resolution of those differences. There is less about the ordinary people (of whom, of course, little can be known since they did not write books or meet with emperors), and more about the great names who may or may not represent the true nature of the believers though that period.
