Intimate, drawing autobiography: The good stuff and the tough stuff...
Good book... Better than I expected. I was fascinated by the differences and the similarities I felt with the author. This is an autobiography of Steven Curtis Chapman, who is famous for his Christian pop music, and for losing his adopted daughter in an accident in which his son hit her in a car.
I am not familiar with his music, and don't know much of the Christian music scene. I've mostly only heard of his name in connection with the accident, and their struggles to deal with the loss.
Given that, the outstanding differences in his life and mine are so great. He grew up a good Christian church going boy, although I was in church as a child, I left it in my teens, and lived a wild life. He became famous for his music, I was and remain an unknown. He lived his whole life in more or less rural America, I've spent mine in various countries all over the world.
Given the great differences in our lives, the part that really draws me, and that I relate to, is his continually calling out to God for leading, asking for His guidance, and taking steps of faith, even when they don't seem the logical thing. His struggle to balance the various parts of his life, are something I can connect to, and the intimacy with which he shares his life, the good parts and the tough parts, is very drawing. I feel as if he has really opened up the deepest parts of his life with me. I would like to share mine with him if I had the chance.
