It takes two individuals to become one flesh. Only when you and your mate know and respect each other's needs, choices, and freedom can you give yourselves freely and lovingly to one another. Boundaries in Marriage gives you the tools you need. Drs. Cloud and Townsend, counselors and authors of the best selling Boundaries, share with you:
-Why boundaries are vital for a thriving relationship
-How values form the structure of marriage
-How to protect your marriage from intruders
-Why and how each partner needs to establish personal boundaries
-How to work with a spouse who understands and values boundaries
-How to work with one who doesn't
Drs. Cloud and Townsend help you understand the friction points and even the serious hurts in your marriage - and move beyond them to mutual care, respect, affirmation, and intimacy.
- Great tools
I wish I had listened to the book a long time ago. If I had put up boundaries (knowing that I wasn't being mean and unforgiving) I probably wouldn't be facing the mess that I'm working through now. Great tools and perspective. Even handed in both spouses looking at their part.
As I listened in the car or doing something, I would take a screen shot of the place in the book that I wanted to revisit. Easy way to remember where in the audio I was.
- Better than Boundaries?
I really enjoyed reading Boundaries when I did in a small group setting several years ago. I thought that book was a little wordy though. Cloud and Townsend seem to prefer to err on the side of being thorough than efficient. I had to go through this book for a counseling class I took and I was very pleased. The beginning chapters very succinctly outline the main ideas of Boundaries and although the rest of the book appropriately deals with the marriage relationship, with a little imagination you can easily translate the main points into any relationship. Well done.
