AudioFile Earphones Award Winner

Marc Royce works for the State Department on special assignments, most of them rather routine, until two CIA operatives go missing in Iraq--kidnapped by Taliban forces bent on generating chaos in the region. Two others also drop out of sight--a high-placed Iraqi civilian and an American woman providing humanitarian aid. Are the disappearances linked? Rumors circulate in a whirl of misinformation. Marc must unravel the truth in a covert operation requiring utmost secrecy--from both the Americans and the insurgents. But even more secret than the undercover operation is the underground dialogue taking place between sworn enemies. Will the ultimate Reconciler between ancient enemies, current foes, and fanatical religious factions be heard?

good books are worth a second read
This was my first Davis Bunn book. I love his style and pace. It read like an international spy novel, but had a depth that few writers achieve. I have since purchased several other Davis Bunn titles and found him to be equally stimulating in other books.
This was my second time to listen to this book and i loved the pace of the action, the plot development, character development, and history in the book.the pace and plot were more important than the minute details that often bog other writers down as they pad their page count.
Important Themes: friendship, trust, loyalty, doing the right thing
I have recommended it many times since I gave a listen the first time.
Good books are worth a second read, but bad books are not worth the first read. I plan on listening to this book many more times in my life.

Very disappointed
Very disappointed. The narrator tried too hard to imitate all the characters be made it distracting. I had heard about Bunn's novels & thought it'd be a good book for a long trip. Found we lost interest very early. The book seemed to drag on. Seemed like a wishful thinking novel.

Great book!
This book is excellent. I listened to parts over several months (as I didn't get time in between) and was always drawn back into the story quickly. I learned a lot about Iraq history and the culture there. The portrayal of Christians and Christ was excellent and I hope there are many in Iraq and the US like the main characters.
