"I want you to take every step of your life with excitement for where you are headed. And I want you to feel beautiful and confident as you do."
But how? When the enemy whispers lies that we are not smart enough, pretty enough, or rich enough? Or are you too dumb, too loud, too quiet, too thin, too fat, too much or not enough? What if you don't have what it takes to be who you really want to be?"
In Looking for Lovely, Annie F. Downs shares personal stories, biblical truth, and examples of how others have courageously walked the path God paved for their lives by remembering all God had done, loving what was right in front of them, and seeing God in the everyday—whether that be nature, friends, or the face they see in the mirror.
Intensely personal, yet incredibly powerful, Looking for Lovely will spark transformative conversations and life changing patterns. No matter who you are and what path God has you on, we all need to remember the lovely, fight to finish, and find beautiful in our every day!
- Lovely! Simply lovely ❤️
Annie F. Downs book, " Looking for Lovely", has been the perfect weed for this season of my life. I'm currently going through recovery from, not one but two, retinal detachments within a four month period of time. I've known and loved Jesus for the majority of my 48 year life, but I can't say I've ever looked for lovely in all that he places around me, the way that Annie suggests, even admonishes, me to do in her book. If you've ever been discouraged, disillusioned, struggling for purpose, just wondering what loveliness is in this world of ugliness, you should read it. I've discovered within these 24 chapters that I can trust the path God has me on, that the "pause" is a place of rest, and a place of rest is the place where Jesus can most closely speak to me and show me lovely things. I've also learned that my faith brings me to suffering (because Jesus told us it would), but that in the suffering I am called to grow endurance. Throughout my recovery and reading this book, I've learned that growing endurance produces character and that the character produced causes hope to bloom. I pray that the flowers of hope will continue to bloom in my life and that I will see lovely and all the little things God places in my life each day. Enjoy Annie's book-it's really great!
- Great book by a fun author
This is my first encounter with Annie Downs, but I feel like we are best friends. Looking for Lovely, is a collection of experiences recorded by Annie in which she exposes a very unlovely period within her life but shares the healing process she experienced and the lovely she found through it all.
Annie is completely genuine, open and vulnerable as she shares her struggles with weight, being single, being a quitter and loneliness, yet she doesn't come across as whiney or grumbling. She shares her story in a more matter of fact way but with the focus being on the beautiful work of Christ on the cross. Not all things are lovely, but you can look for the little lovelies in every situation.
The audio version of the book was read by the author. She was engaging in her reading and because these are her personal stories you could hear the emotion in her voice- which I like much better than a detached voice that just reads the words.
If you are looking for a book that will encourage you as well as challenge you this is the book for you. Such a great reminder to look for lovely in every situation.
