Out of the Silent Planet is the first novel of the Cosmic Trilogy, considered to be C.S. Lewis' chief contribution to the science fiction genre. The trilogy concerns Dr. Ransom, a linguist, who, like Christ, was offered a ransom for mankind. The first two novels are planetary romances with elements of medieval mythology. Each planet is seen as having a tutelary spirit; those of the other planets are both good and accessible, while that of Earth is fallen, twisted, and not known directly by most humans. The story is powerfully imagined, and the effects of lesser gravity on Martian planet and animal life is vividly rendered.

I really enjoyed this. Very funny at points. The theological lessons are clear too. The new language helps to simplify profound truths and helps us see common truth through a fresh lens.

This is a wonderful book. One of Lewis' best. This audio version is very well read, and with an English accent which is appropriate considering the book's source. I strongly recommend it.
Overall - wonderful reader

The reader is very good. He's easy to listen to and follow. The reason for 4 stars, instead of 5, is b/c the tracks are not by chapter, but several chapters on one track, and sometimes a chapter is split across 2 tracks.
Overall - A diversion

I'm not much of a fantasy fan, not having read any in decades. (Lord of the Rings; Narnia, Madeline L'Engle). Think more of L'Engle, not Tolkein; the characters are not drawn with that much detail.
Still, it's an interesting story, thinking of the ways things work in a different world.Overall - Another wonderful addition to the Christian fiction catalog

Another excellent fictional series by C.S. Lewis. I look forward to modern Christian authors creating more material that uses Christian themes to such a depth that does not require blatant Christian terminology in order to tell you "this is Christian." In other words, writing as a testimony rather than blatant instruction is what we need more of, and this series delivers.
Overall - Excellent and fun tale of outer space

After three readings, Lewis still makes me wonder if, as he hints, this was based on a true story. He captures so well an understanding of how the presence of God may be understood by extraterrestrial creatures. Lewis does this so well and clearly in all of his fiction; he places God and Jesus at the center of all Joy and all things. As for the audio recording of this book, Geoffrey Howard is "the voice" of CS Lewis in my opinion, having narrated other books by Lewis. Even when I read other of Lewis' books I often hear Howard's voice narrating; he so well captures the tone and thought of CS Lewis.
