- Useful Prayer Resource
-
Praying The Bible Into Your Life by Stormie Omartian is a small book but it packs a big punch in terms of your prayer life. The book is basically broken up into segments about different topics that a believer may want to pray about and it provides supporting scriptural backing for the topic and about how to pray about it.
This book would be best used as a daily devotion material or reference material for prayer, so that each topic can be meditated upon and thought through, otherwise the topics will run into each other and it will just end up like an audio Bible. The range of topics that are covered are diverse and the supporting scriptures are well researched to provide helpful insight on how to biblically pray through the topic.
The narration is very good as usual, it is smooth and really helps you to listen to the audio book easily. The narrator, Tavia Gilbert, is once again very good.
Praying The Bible Into Your Life is a beneficial resource for learning how to use the Bible to pray through a wide range of issues that are bound to be encountered in the lifetime of the believer.

In Praying the Bible into Your Life, Stormie Omartian gives us a fresh look at scripture by encouraging us to utilize the words of the scriptures in the words of our prayers. She works through each of the Bible books (literally, all 66 of them), choosing particular scriptures and then providing a prayer that incorporates its ideas and phrases.
The selected readings are all short—just a handful of verses at the most. The prayers are short as well, and although they’re definitely complete prayers in and of themselves, they would work well as prayer prompts as well.
This is a great listen! The narration is spot-on. I wish there was a 3x5 card edition, with the scripture selections and prayers each printed on their own card. Or a desk calendar version. I’m serious! How useful that would be! I recommend this book for those who want to breathe new life into both their Bible reading and prayer, as both will benefit from listening to this.

Overall - Helpful to one’s devotional life.

I must confess that this book is totally different than what I thought it would be. I had never read or heard a book by Stormie Omartian although I’ve seen her books before and the titles always caught my attention.
Praying the Bible? I assumed it had you quoting scripture verses to God in your prayers. Instead it uses the verses of the scriptures as a springboard for your prayers.
Here is an example:
“Stand firm in freedom Christ has given you.
Galatians 5:1 “Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free..”
Lord I thank you, for the freedom you have given me in Christ. Help me not to fall back into the old way of doing things and the old habits of thought. Enable me to stand strong in all I know of you…”
Have you learned to meditate on the scriptures? In my opinion “Praying the Bible Into Your Life” by Stormie Omartian is excellent as an resource of how to do this. Many people just rush through their Bible reading and it doesn’t profit them as much as it should.
This book is read by Tavia Gilbert. I think she reads it well. It’s not too fast or too slow and is done in a respectful manner.
I do agree with some of the other reviewers that this would be nicer to read as a book, rather than listen because each “prayer” is so short that it doesn’t lend itself well to just listening to one and going on. This is a book one shouldn’t hurry through. However under chapters in iTunes you can see a segment of what each verse/prayer is about – so if you wanted to go to the effort you could just listen to one a day and ponder and pray on it. Also those who like the KJV of the Bible should note that this particular audio quotes verses from the NKJV. For these reasons I gave it 4 out of 5 stars.

- Enjoyed listening to this audiobook

As I listened, the Scripture, "Faith comes by hearing and hearing by the Word of God" (Romans 10:17) kept coming to mind. this audiobook is a collection of 194 Scriptures and prayers, divided into short chapters. The book is 99 minutes long.
As each Scripture reading and prayer is very short, the narrator moves seamlessly into each section. I listened to this in iTunes, and each segment had a description of what the Scripture is about. In this venue, it was very easy to identify which segment would be helpful for any life situation that a person might find himself in.
I thought that the Scripture and accompanying prayer meshed together very well. The narrator (Tavia Gilbert) has a very comforting voice; and added to the peace and comfort that hearing the Scriptures themselves give; this was a very easy audio book to listen to. I can definitely see keeping this book very close for those times when God's Word is needed as a reference.

Overall - Comforting, Inspiring

I’ve read many of Stormie Omartian’s books on prayer and have the little prayer cards that go along with several of them. I regularly refer to these books when I run into a snag in life, and wondered how I’d like the audio version of her latest, Praying the Bible Into Your Life.
When I slipped on my headphones and began, I immediately loved the narrator’s voice, calm and confident. After the introduction, I expected to hear a long talk about each topic, as in the other books she’s written, followed by instructions on putting this into practice, and then a prayer. Instead, I found that each topic is only about 30 seconds long, with a short scripture passage followed by a prayer. Just the right amount of time to get to the point.
The 193 topics are listed as the titles of each chapter, meaning that when I want to look up “Ask God for Wisdom” or “Be Ready for Battle”, easily scrolling through the titles pulls up just what I’m looking for. The topics are diverse and the prayers are specific in each one, and I have already put them to use at times that I felt I needed to get down to business with God about urgent situations. Hearing the scriptures that speak specifically to what I’m going through, then a prayer using that scripture to remind me of God’s involvement in my life was a great source of comfort. This is an audio file that should be in every believer’s mp3 player!

I recently finished listening to Praying the Bible Into Your Life by Stormie Omartian. In this book you will find verses matched with short prayers. It includes verses from Genesis to Revelation. Some of the titles of the "chapters" include: God Makes Himself Known to You, Ask God to Know Him Better, and Find Liberty in God's Presence.
The book was read by Tavia Gilbert. I enjoyed her voice and listening to her. She did a good job with this reading I thought.
It would be good to listen to as a way to grow in the habit of praying Bible verses when certain situations arise in life. However, I felt as I was listening that it would be easier to focus on it if I was reading it instead of listening to it. I would like to see the verses and prayers in print, maybe because I am more of a visual learner that only auditory.

Overall - Simple...But Timely
-
I really enjoyed how short and simple the book which made it much easier to listen to as my day progressed. The way in which the audio was done made listening easy and it really kept my attention.
The reader of the book had a great flow and rhythm which allowed the book to move smoothly from section to section. The clarity was also well done so that I did not have to strain or turn the volume higher to listen effectively.
However, I think I would have preferred a male voice to read some of the sections. The female reader did a great job but it seemed that the softness of the feminine wasn't powerful enough for me on certain passages; just a personal preference.

Praying The Bible Into Your Life by Stormie Ortmartian attempts to show its reader how to use the Scriptures to enhance your prayer life. This book is a collection of Scriptures accompanied by a starter prayer with verses that are chosen to reflect a full range of prayer needs. These verses and prayers allow the reader to become more familiar with God’s Word and gives the reader an example by which to incorporate the Holy Scriptures into his or her daily prayer life.
The book covers topics on just about any situation that you will find yourself in and I consider it to be a great resource for inspiration when facing life’s difficult challenges. However, I read the audio book version of this title for this article, and even though I am a big fan of audio books, this is one case where the print version does not translate well to the audio book. Even though the contents of the book themselves are interesting and enlightening, I just did not get the same enjoyment from it in audio form.
Each chapter of this book is a separate selection of Scripture followed by a short prayer starter based on the verse selected. This means that each chapter of this book is approximately 50 seconds long. The book contains 194 chapters, including the title and copyright information, and the audio book is 99 minutes long. This means that while listening to this book, you really don’t have the time to think about the Scriptures that you are hearing before you are given another topic, Scripture, and prayer.
Typically I listen to audio books while driving to and from work each day, and on my first 20 minute commute I heard 30 to 35 chapters and Scripture selections. I was able to complete the book in just 2 days of driving to work. But the length of the book is not really an issue. If I had been able to stop and listen to one chapter a day and taken the time to contemplate on what the topic and Scripture selection meant to me, then my opinion of this book would have differed greatly. But since I listen to audio books while commuting, the 50 second selection per day is just not an option. And it really is too much trouble to load the selection into the audio player for just 50 seconds a day.
The narration on this audio book was well done. Tavia Gilbert was a pleasure to listen to. easy to understand and I would like to listen to more of her work. Unfortunately I don’t believe that this style of book is suitable for an audio book, except in the case of a physical handicap that prevents the reader from enjoying a hard copy of the work.
I do feel that this book contains useful Scriptures and that the author does a good job applying them to life situations and combining them with prayer. So on this level the book succeeded. I would recommend this book in its hard copy form to anyone who is looking for inspiration from the Scriptures and for examples on how to use God’s Word in your prayers. I can foresee someone wanting to reference this work time and time again as they encounter different situations in their life. In that case you would really benefit by being able to pick up the print version, find your topic in the contents, and then reflecting on the selection.
As a book I would give Praying The Bible Into Your Life a 4 out of 5, but as an audio book I would have to give it a 2 out of 5.
