- Lewis' material is great! Colson's introductions less than great.
Lewis' exploration of the four different Greek words for "love" is excellent! Very Good, and helpful insights. Of course, the recording is 60 years old, so the audio quality is not what we have come to expect in more modern recordings. However, it is quite understandable. I also made me feel like I had actually attended a lecture by Prof. Lewis.
On the other hand, with no intended offence to Charles Colson, and with respect for all he has done and the lives he has influenced, I felt that his introductions to each sections were a detriment, not an enhancement. Mr. Colson took the time before each section to tell us what Prof. Lewis was about to say. Personally, I would have enjoyed it better just listening to Prof. Lewis saying it.
That said, it is not too difficult to fast forward the introductory parts.
- Yes the quality of recording is good
It was good but hard to figure how to get it
- Worth reading annually
The amazing insight of this man is demonstrated well in this talk he gave about the 4 Greek words for Love. C.S. Lewis' own voice is here reading a speech from the material in his book by the same name. The recording was from 1958 and is not as clear as modern recordings we are used to but this is the only professional recording of his own voice. Yet each time I've listened to it his insight into God's love has made a big impact on me.
- Great stuff
As always, the depth of Lewis' thoughts on such things blow my mind. I find that hearing the work in the author's own voice give even greater clarity to an already amazing book.
