Very good read
These comments apply also to Out of the Silent Planet and Perelandra, the previous books which form a trilogy with That Hideous Strength. Out of the Silent Planet has been a ‘comfort-book’ for me ever since I heard it serialized on the BBC in the early 1950s. For an author best known either for his Narnia books, or turgid Christian apologetics, these novels are surprisingly good. Since Lewis was a English tutor at Oxford for several decades, the fact that he could write well should not surprise us. But add to that his vivid imagination and the great intelligence of his plots, and we have an exceptional series of stories, rivalling Arthur C Clark or Isaac Asimov in the canon of science fiction writing. These are moral and unashamedly Christian tales, although for the most part the latter does not get in the way of the writing with the possible exception of the overly long exchange at the end of Perelandra. On the whole, a very, very good read.

My only beef is with the ‘Christian Audio’ app downloaded on to my iPhone SE. When the ‘phone was switched off the app lost my place, and ‘forgot’ chapters that had been downloaded. It also failed to pause during incoming telephone calls. Very much inferior to the Amazon ‘Audio’ app.

Greatest Dystopian Novel of All Time.
More prescient than 1984, Brave New World, We, It Can';t Happen Here, Animal Farm, Fahrenheit 451, A Canticle for Leibowitz. Only Robert Hugh Benson's Lord of the World comes close.

Different from the first two
I found this book different from the first two while remaining steadfast to the very descriptive style of C.S. Lewis. This book, despite being written in 1945, still has applicable truths for today. Narration was superb and I was engaged throughout the entire novel.
