The main thing is to keep the main thing the main thing. So…exactly what is the main thing? The apostle Paul stated that the main thing was the gospel. It remains the main thing today.
In 1973 John Stott wrote: “For all around us we see Christians and churches are relaxing their grasp of the gospel, fumbling it, in danger of letting it drop from their hands all together.”
Speaking to a group of young adults, C.J. Mahaney urges them: “Tighten your grip on the gospel.” He emphasizes why guarding the gospel is a daily challenge and necessity for every Christian: in order to combat forgetfulness, legalism, subjectivity, and condemnation.
- Heartfelt and a much-needed reminder
C.J. Majaney passionately reminds me of what is at the core of our faith. He does so with much zeal and knowledge often quoting well-known theologians such as Spurgeon and Stott. Most importantly, he arouses a similar passion in the listener to realize WHY holding fast to the gospel" is important. In part two, he prescribes keys to helping keep that desire alive.
