In a culture where the foundations of attraction, love, marriage, and sex are rapidly eroding, Matt Chandler offers an eternal, counter-intuitive perspective from the biblical book of Song of Solomon.
Scripture says we’re to nurture our hearts above all else — yet we are inundated with songs, movies, and advice that contradict and cheapen God’s design for love and intimacy.
Matt Chandler, on of today’s top Christian voices, helps navigate these issues for both singles and marrieds. In The Mingling of Souls, he reveals the process Solomon himself followed — Attraction, Courtship, Marriage...even Arguing.
Chapters such as “Conflict Will Define Your Marriage” and “Sex Is Romantic, Gentle, Sensuous, Godly” will radically change how readers view—and approach—love.

- Great for all ages

This book is excellent. When I started listening, I thought it would be sappy from the cover. Then I thought it would be sappy because of the Song of Sol. Focus. Instead it gives a great explanation of what's going on the the scriptures of Song of Sol. I always got caught up in the symbolism and never understood what was really happening with the characters, even...where they arrived at this point? Did they really do it in her parent's house? This book gives me the context for all that, but it also gives guidance for how we should live based on the highlights of this scripture.
At the beginning, I was thinking, "Ok this book will be great for a preteen" because it shows how you should look for character in who you will date. It shows how church membership indicates commitment and some evidences you can look for in a person's reputation instead of just, "Make sure to go for a good boy". As I listened on I thought, "This book will be great for people heading toward marriage" because it tells you how to move from the dating era to the point where you're supposed to share more of yourself and that you have to be willing to do this but understand that its a risk before you're married. But even after that, the book got into some things that I was thinking, "My husband and I should revisit this part because it will help improve us as individuals for our marriage". So this book is full of great content throughout--applications for all stages as well as clarity on the scriptures. I plan to listen again later when I can slow down and annotate my Bible with some of these insights!Overall - Great perspective
-
I thought this was a really good book. The way Song of Solomon was interweaved into practical advice was very good. It would be a fabulous read for anyone wanting to be married or engaged yet still thought provoking for people who have been married for years.
Overall - I learned a lot about how marriage and dating should look like
-

- Excellent read for singles and married
-
I find this book very useful and iformative on the issue of datngx and marriage. Before listening to this, I was sligyhtly confused on what to look for in a potential partner and how to decide whether to date someone or not but now I Have guiding principles. I have a better understanding of songs of Solomon. The book also peeled back some of the gloss that cover marriage revealing the reality of marriage.
In addition, I enjoyed I enjoyed listening to the reader whose voice was animated and punctuated the reading appropriately.Overall - Excellent depiction of Song of Solomon!
-
I've never really understood or taken much from the Song of Solomon except "don't wake up love before it is time." This book helped me glean a lot more from the book and see it more are a building of a relationship prior and after marriage.
Overall - Terrific Book
-
Terrific book on marriage! The translation of Songs of Solomon came across very odd to me, but all the points are on spot regardless. Well worth the read if you're dating, courting, or married.
Overall - Premarriage counseling
-
Helpful book I recommended to our daughter and fiance.
Overall - read it!

Simple. Gospel Centered. Required reading for all engaged couples!
Overall - Makes Sense
-
First time the Song of Solomon makes sense to me. Sometimes a little bit more personal opinion than exegesis, but a great help.
Overall - Helpful, gentle, and hopeful
-
As someone who never had pre-martial counseling on the topic of marital intimacy, this book was helpful, after almost a decade of marriage, to affirm some right behaviors and thoughts and point out some untrue thinking and unhelpful practices. The authors' gentle words were encouraging and hope- filled, giving practical and spiritual solutions to problems or false beliefs, not adding unnecessary shame or guilt to the reader's conscience.
Overall - Really enjoyed this book
-
Really enjoyed this book, though do struggle to read and understand Song of Solomon and when knowing he had over 700 wives and 300 concubines!
Overall - Gods ways for love, marriage and sex
-
An extremely important book for singles as well as married couples. These are critical teachings for us as Christians...and at the centre of it all is Jesus!
Overall - Loved it!

My socks have officially been blown OFF!
I absolutely loved The Mingling Of Souls. It brought to life what I had previously ridden off as a strange, irrelevant part of the Bible - the Song of Solomon. Filled with SO much wisdom and actual ACHIEVABLE practical advice, I feel like I have grown as a person just from listening to this audiobook.
Everyone should read/listen to this. It has helped me love my boyfriend of 3+ years with new eyes and an open heart. I knew that love - real, true love that God has designed - is not based on feelings. But no one had explained to me in this kind of depth how to redefine it from what the worldly standards are, and how to uphold love as a covenant rather than an emotion, or even a "choice".
The Mingling of Souls explores what it means to be true companions to one another, through all the highs, lows and differences, and how this kind of relationship represents the gracious and relentless love that God has for us. Such a blessing!
Only 8 short chapters too. C'mon, just read the book already!!Overall - Excellent resource for dating or marriage
-
As a therapist, I've read numerous books on marriage and dating and I think Chandler does an incredible job of pairing solid theology with practical guidance.
Overall - Great....highly recommended

Very thought provoking
Overall - Keep your relationship Godly
-
A thorough breakdown of Song of Solomon, including historical and literal context, helping to understand the great guidance from God's Word for men and women in marriage and those not married.
Overall - Narator reads to slow
-
I didn't finish the book because the narrator read to slow and monotone and I could have read the book better on my own. A friend recommended the book. If she gives me a paper copy I would read through it. I've read many Christian relationship books several years ago so when I read books, I skip the paragraphs that have been said before by others and slow down to read the parts which are unique to that particular author and book. Audio books have no way to skip redundant paragraphs because there are no markers within the chapters. Just have to let the voice talk.
Overall - Intriguing
-
I have enjoyed this book a lot. It opened up some new thinking for me. I loved the way they included one another in the book.
Overall - very good

I think this subject is not covered enough in Christian literature. God create sexual desire for our good, Satan is the one who is responsible for all pornography and amorality
Overall - Delightful
-
I really enjoyed this book. The authors recipe for this book is, 1 Cup Hard hitting truth, 1 Cup Marvelous Humor and 1 Cup Insightful real life examples/stories. Together it makes for a delightful book, that you will remember and recommend. Readers that enjoy books from Kyle Idleman and Mark Batterson will enjoy these authors also. This book will be excellent for someone who is in the dating stage of life, or looking to date, but married couples will also greatly benefit from this book
Overall - This is worth listening to. It's for the whole family

This is an excellent book. I would love my young adult kids to listen to it too.

goes to the heart of the glue that keeps women and men together. The differences that our creator put in men and women are the very things that enrich and solidify their union and is therefore to be celebrated.
The worldly culture is soo hung up with physical appearance, attraction and sexual pleasure (without any boundaries namely the safety of the Godly ordained marriage relationship) In marriage Godly marriage and love goes deeper than mere physical attraction to the joining of heart and wills in a covenant agreement that until death till us part. The mingling of souls shows both presently married couples and those soon to be married the wonder of the chemistry, mystery and reality of two souls joined by God in the marital union. I highly recommend this to both married and those preparing for marriage.Overall - Not as deep into the scriputure as some other books but the main idea is there and offers some different pictures of what the text is saying.

I am not a fan of reading the Song of Song as though it is all about marriage or relationships today, still the author's content is good and helpful. He has some very good and insightful thoughts on couples interaction.

Overall - Great book, with author's conjecture

Great review of Song of Solomon, but some of Chandler's personal thoughts without addressing multiple possible interpretations.
Overall - Excelent book.

Overall - Great Book!
-
This is a great book for any couple thinking about marriage or is already married.
Overall - Clear, thorough, comprehensive set of principles on relationship between a man and a woman
-
Listened to it twice so hopefully I understood it sufficiently to provide a review. The author definitely offered a thorough and comprehensive teaching on the topic of relationship between a man and a woman. It is largely based on the Song of Songs and other selected Biblical text. This is the first for me to hear any clear explanation or teaching based on Song of Songs and I feel it's tremendously helpful for me.
I just wish to hear a more clear support from biblical text when some of the personal observation were made(such as when he was talking about attraction).Overall - A soul-satisfying understanding with a meaningful godly approach to relationships.
-
The book offers a soul-satisfying understanding of Song of Songs, punctuated by wisdom from the author's own marriage and counseling ministry, presenting a meaningful godly approach to all aspects and stages of a relationship.
Overall - Practical and biblical
-
Very helpful, also wish I had read it sooner but good practical advice for men and women.
Overall - Excellent. Get it now.

This is my new favorite book on marriage. Matt Chandler does a great job addressing dating, courtship, engagement, marriage, sex, and conflict resolution is this fairly short, very accessible exposition of Song of Solomon.
Overall - Awesome

I really enjoyed the books plain language.
Overall - Insight into God's design

Overall - Insightful

'Mingling of Souls' is the best teaching I've ever heard on the subject of marriage and dating. I've been a married Christian woman for more than 30 years and learned much here. Giving to my dating son. Thank you.
Overall - Amazing!
-
This is a great book!!! I recommend for single and married people.
Overall - Everyone Needs This Book
-
I wish I had this book in high school. Our culture has created this idea that there is some sexual line we can't cross, but everything up to that point is okay. Or even the idea that everything is okay, and waiting until marriage for sex is unreasonable and antiquated. What we aren't talking about is purity and God's creation of and intention for sex. This in-depth study of Song of Solomon was so helpful, even after I have been married for 7 years. Thank you for talking about the hard topics and speaking truth.
Overall - Excellent book for marriage
-
Excellent!!! Love Chandler's conversational style of writing!
Overall - Highly recommended
-
This book is great for couples considering marriage, for couples who are married, and for singles looking for a great marriage. It is well written, easy to understand, full of examples, and focuses on a true biblical marriage. It uses the Song of Solomon as the basis.
The writing style flows very well and translates well to audio. The narration is also very good.
As a person married for 15 years, it helped me see what my husband and I are doing well in our marriage, and also showed me some areas where I or we can improve. My sister, who is considering marriage to someone, has gotten great information on the role of a godly wife, as well as the traits she should be looking for in a godly husband. She loved the book and has passed it on to several people already.Overall - Worth a read
-
Great book, very well presented.
Overall - great deep study
-
bringing me to deeper understanding of Song of Solomon. Encourage all couples to listen/read twice every year
Overall - Wouldn't continue listening
-
I didn't get past the intro on this. Once again these contemporary Christian writers say things like "I don't mean to be crass but..." and there you go - Wouldn't trust their judgment after that on the subject.
Overall - Pre and Post Marriage Advice!

Awesome Book for anyone thinking of marriage or post marriage help!
Overall - Excellent thoughts on marriage
-
I really enjoyed the book. It's very easy to listen to. And the insights on marriage, sex, and relationships is really helping me.

Overall - Solomon saving intimacy for marriage?
-
This book is an expanded use of the Song of Solomon in describing courtship and premarital relationships. The authors added interpretations of the early portion of this Biblical book to describe God’s plan for relationships even before marriage. These relationships, according to the authors showed great restraint in holding intimacy back until after marriage.
It is hard for me to imagine Solomon actually refraining in this fashion since he had so, so many wives and concubines. Nevertheless, the lessons presented by the authors are welcome in the present times where it seems like sexuality is very often an early part of a relationship resulting in damage to true marital intimacy and, I believe, at least partially explaining the very large divorce rate that we are experiencing. Most Christians understand that this is absolutely against God’s plan for courtship and marriage and this book adds a unique portion of scripture to reinforce God’s plan for premarital relationships and marriage.
I was given a free audio version of this book for my agreement to review it but this has not influenced my personal impressions of the book.
Overall - Very good
-
Really enjoyed this book. I listened to it 2 or 3 times in the first few days I had it.
Overall - Engaging Content
-
This book provides insights into Song of Solomon that I hadn't heard before and gives hope to those of us who haven't had an excellent marriage modeled for us. Well read, pleasant speaking voice. All in all I'd give this one two thumbs up.
