For three hundred years The Pilgrim’s Progress has remained perhaps the best loved and most read of devotional fictions. In plain yet powerful and moving language, Bunyan tells the story of Christian’s struggle to attain salvation and the Gates of Heaven. He must pass through the Slough of Despond, ward off the temptations of Vanity Fair and fight the monstrous Apollyon… In Part Two, his wife and children follow the same path, helped and protected by Great-Heart, until for them too ‘the trumpets sound on the other side’.
- a Christian classic that speaks to our modern times
Once I got used to the older English vernacular, it was a compelling story. On a long drive it was both convicting and well as encouraging. Certainly a Christian classic that speaks to our modern times.
- Listening while doing lawn care
As a bi-vocational pastor, I have found audio-books to be a God-send in redeeming the time I am working for my lawn care company. Bunyan's "The Pilgrim's Progress" was a mainstay of the Puritan spiritual diet. The story comes alive on audio. Last week on my iPod I was able to trek with Christian (Part 1) from the City of Destruction to the Celestial City. This week I will accompany Christiana (Part 2) as she leads their children in Christian's footsteps to join him. What a refreshing way to add the color of Christian biography, classics and new releases without surrendering my regular "study" time. Kudos to Christian Audio!
