Against the oft-heard claims of a culture that denies the existence of human nature and places feelings and desires at the center of human existence, Dr. Willard insists that the purpose of human life is to love and serve others and to be loved and served by them. Through a brief but insightful tour through classical philosophy, Modernity, and current cultural shifts, Dr. Willard explores the arguments for a human nature and the reasons for its supposed demise in American society. He argues that, indeed, all things have a nature, and that a sufficient living out of one’s human nature comes only in relationship to God.

My favorite part was when he said I rejoice with those that rejoice because I know God will take care of me in His kingdom. Otherwise I would be jealous. Other gems also.

This is a powerful, intellectual presentation. It hit the spot when so many around me dismiss the Christian worldview and "truth" as ridiculous. Very encouraging and well thought out. From Socrates to Nietzsche, great thinkers have seen the imperative of a belief in God in order for a civilization to hold together.
