Lex Luger, wrestling megasensation and three-time world heavyweight champion, ruled the ring for years as “The Total Package.” Whether he was making a dramatic entrance from a helicopter, defeating champ Hulk Hogan, or sculpting a near-perfect physique, Lex was on top of his game. Yet backstage, he was wrestling with addictions to sex, drugs, and alcohol—things he clung to even when his mistress died suddenly of a drug overdose and Lex went to jail. There, Lex faced the truth: he was losing the fight for his life. And still awaiting him was his most brutal opponent yet, when the wrestling champ found himself helplessly paralyzed from the neck down. In Wrestling with the Devil, Lex Luger reveals never-before-told stories from his career, his struggle with personal demons, and how, through unexpected faith, grace, and redemption, he overcame all odds to fight the only battle that really matters.
- life changing
This book has changed me I just wanted to thank lex luger for telling his story which I related to. A hero as a child watching him on tv and now asan adult too. Thank you lex you are a true inspiration.
- The Total Package
Wrestling With the Devil by Lex Luger is a fascinating insight into a famous wrestler, the profession itself and the price of fame and a lot of money. It is quite a complete autobiography detailing early life including his amazing atheltic ability and football career before transitioning into his quite successful wrestling career. As Lex Luger (aka The Total Package) he had a successful career inside the ring but outside of the ring his life was starting to fall apart with addictions and an affair causing problems. It also deals with his criminal problems, jail time and eventual conversion to Christ as well as his recent battle with spinal injuries, no doubt influcenced by his wrestling and football careers.
As someone who never really followed wrestling as a child I wasn't sure what I would think about this book but I enjoy autobiographies especially when they are about interesting careers like wrestling. I found the book very compelling and I couldn't wait to hear the next chapter of Lex's amazing life. There are plenty of highs and lows with a few twists thrown in that make it a thrilling journey.
The narration is very good, it sounded like Lex was reading the book as the narrator did it so well. The book flowed nicely and it was very easy listening.
This book is a must read for all wrestling fans and highly recommended for anyone who loves a good autobiography. It is very entertaining and it will you leave you with a lasting impression.

- Wresting With The Devil is a great listen
I listened to the audio book Wresting with the Devil by Lex Luger. I was really impressed with the narration and totally engrossed in the story. Lex was so transparent in telling his life story and how far he fell and how much he lost. But, although he lost a lot of earthly stuff, he gained Heaven and eternity. i am really glad to hear he is now laying up treasures in Heaven. I highly recommend this book.

- The Total Package - missing the bow.
I remember watching Lex Luger on TV back when I was younger. My wife does not approve of professional wrestling, so I like many of my friends had somewhat limited exposure to the professional wrestling profession. While most acknowledge that the sport is scripted, many find it entertaining. The good guys and the villain characters make the matches more interesting because fans want one or the other to win. Sometimes bad guys turn good and sometimes good guys turn bad adding to the drama.
I have never questioned the athletic ability of the wrestlers as they are obviously very strong and spend a lot of time learning moves and how to coordinate moves between the wrestlers in order to minimize injury. It seems that despite the precautions, this sport is very punishing.
Lex Luger was one of the most fit wrestlers that I can remember. His book goes into detail on the methods that he used in order to gain and maintain his physique. I did not follow his story close enough to realize that he is also very intelligent, hence the nickname of “The Total Package.”
Lex describes how he is no different from most of us. Rebellion against God along with self-reliance most often will result in wondering why me or why not me. It is amazing how far God will sometimes go to get our attention. Some say that when you get to the very bottom, the only way you can look is up and many find God when they are in the lowest point of their life.
This book gives us both a look into the world of professional wrestling and into the mind of one who was very successful in a profession while failing pretty badly in life.
It was a very enjoyable read. I would have preferred that Lex narrated the book himself but this did not detract from my pleasure.
I was given a free audio version of this book for my agreement to review it but this has not influenced my personal impressions of the book.
- A Wrestler with Something to Say
You might think that a wrestler writing a book would be a bad, bad thing – a man pumped up on pills who is obsessed with his body can't be too intelligent or have anything of importance to say, can he?
I listened to this book knowing virtually nothing about this 'sport', and had never even heard Lux Lugar's name in my entire life. Am I a wrestling fan? No. Did I like this book? Yeah. A lot. It's really interesting and well written, even for those who know jack squat about the world of wrestling and wrestlers.
The book focuses more on the rocky journey of Lux's life rather than zeroing in on too much of the wrestling stuff itself.
The book doesn't reveal anything too earth shattering that you most likely didn't know before, but it's a great reminder that the rich, famous, strong and brave have souls that are searching and hungry.
Who should check out this book? Fans of wrestling, Sports Fans, and those who enjoy reading stories of "unlikely people" being rescued by Jesus.
The narration of the audio book is fantastic – nuff said.

- Fascinating and Inspiring
Lex Luger is a name that every wrestling fan of the 1980s and 90s immediately recognizes. Yet his personal story is not one that is familiar. In Wrestling with the Devil, the former professional wrestling world champion tells his own amazing story. Luger opens up about his childhood, his college and pro football days, his marriage, his wrestling career, his fame, his drug and alcohol abuse, his affairs, his divorce, his time spent in jail, his miraculous salvation, and his devastating paralysis.
I have to say that I did not expect to read a good book when Christian Audio sent me this one to review. However, as a former wrestling fan, I could not resist giving the book a listen. What I learned fascinated me. Luger and Hollis spin a fascinating tale of fame, pain, and redemption. Luger is honest about the depts. To which he sank in his life, but the book never crosses the line into the crude. Luger and Hollis manage to tell Lex’s story in a way that lets readers know what happened without taking us down unwholesome paths in the process.
I’ll also add that Luger offers a sweet and clear presentation of the gospel in this work. His own salvation testimony involves a persistent jailhouse chaplain who cared enough about him to become Luger’s friend. It is an inspiring reminder that one of the most powerful things a Christian can do to help another hear the gospel is simply to form a genuine friendship and love someone enough to tell them the truth.
If you are a wrestling fan, there is enough insider info in this book to make it worth the read. If you are a Christian, you will likely find Lex’s story inspiring, especially as you see the heart that God has put into a man who can no longer do the things he used to be able to do because of a major spinal injury (thankfully, the book declares that Lex is making progress in his recovery). If you are an athlete, you will be challenged not to fall into the traps that Luger fell into.
No, Wrestling with the Devil is not a giant literary accomplishment—it was not intended to be. However, it is a story worth the read. I know that I am very glad to have received it, and I would recommend it to anyone who is interested in Lex’s story.
I received a free copy of this work from ChristianAudio.com as part of their reviewers program. This work, like all the others I have heard from Christian Audio, sounds great and is very well-read.
- Great Biography
I did enjoy listening to this audiobook and as I haven't heard of Lex Luger it was a really interesting. I'm not a wrestling fan so hearing all about the characters and story-lines was quite eye opening. It kept me interested throughout to see what was going to happen to Lex, and made me shake my head many times when he admitted that he didn't need anybody's help when he got himself in a mess time and time again. It really is a good biography of success, ruin and redemption.
Johnny Heller the narrator is brilliant for this audiobook as he gets everything right, and made me forget that I was listening to a narrator instead of the author himself. I would recommend this for anyone who enjoys memoirs or biographies and obviously for any Lex Luger or wrestling fans out there. Thanks to christianaudio.com Reviewer's Program for this copy.
- Even if you know nothing about wrestling, you will enjoy this audiobook!
I have never been a big fan of wrestling. I did watch it a little when I was young, but that was before Luger was famous. I had heard of him, but knew very little about his life.
Just reading the description of this book had me hooked. It was well worth the time spent listening to it. The narration was spot on. I felt as if I were watching or listening to a show on the Biography channel.
Luger became one of the most famous wrestlers of all time. Here he shows his rise to the top and his fall. He includes background information on how the industry works and what the other wrestlers were like. You feel like you where there.
After living a life of drugs, partying and adultery, God changed his life. At the end of a dark journey was a gracious God who was there to pick up the pieces. I do not want to give away any of the story, but will just say that Lex has been through some very bad times. Near the end of the story it is heart breaking, but in the very end, we see what a great God we have.
Concerning the narrator, I had heard him before. In the past I was not particularly impressed. This book changed my mind. He brought the book to life and never missed a beat. The difference must have been the material that was read. In this book, he is articulate and exciting.
I loved this book. It keeps you hooked from the very first word. Even if you are like me and know nothing about wrestling, you will definitely enjoy this audiobook.
I highly recommend it and give it 5 out of 5 stars.
I enjoyed this book courtesy of the Christian Audio review program at http://christianaudio.com and received the audio book, free of charge, from ChristianAudio.com and Tyndale Momentum in exchange for an honest review.
- Great for a wrestling fan!
I have been a Lex Luger fan since I was a kid. I was thrilled to hear that he got saved a few years ago. I enjoyed this book a lot. The narrator also did a great job. If you enjoyed watching Lex on WCW/WWF, you'll really like this book.
